BSAC Partners with Livingstone Academy

BSAC and Livingstone Academy have long been leaders for special needs education in Hillsborough County. Now, they join forces in a new partnership, filling a gap in much-needed services for special needs students and adults.

Chuck Burgess (CEO of BSAC) and Chris Pello (CEO Livingstone Schools) met in Leadership Brandon through the Chamber of Commerce in 2014. They quickly built a professional relationship after discovering their common interest in serving the special needs community. This fall, BSAC will debut a behind the scenes project that has been many years in the making. Children and families at our main campus will soon be able to enjoy a brand new playground, complete with a shade structure.

The playground will be located to the left of the basketball courts and will be visible from the parking lot. It will have two slides, monkey bars, ladders, and other fun climbing apparatuses. Soft green turf will cover the ground and make a pathway to the gated area entrance.

BSAC has been extremely busy over the past couple of years upgrading our leadership team, updating and renovating our main campus and adding more and more features to drive our mission. TRIDENT Students Shine at Special Olympics Swim Meet

TRIDENT students were beyond excited to participate in the Hillsborough County Special Olympics Swim Meet held at BSAC on Saturday August 4th.  Swimming is an integral part of the curriculum for TRIDENT students, but specific training for the various stroke categories began eight weeks prior to the event.

“So many of my students did not know how to swim when they came to BSAC,” said Candi Corsi, Director of the TRIDENT program. “Now they are competing and winning blue ribbons, so I am very proud of them.”

BSAC’s Senior Director of Sports Programming, Theresa Hickie, has been awarded Public Citizen of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers (NAHW). This award annually recognizes someone that is not a social worker but carries out the philosophy NAHW believes in.

What an unbelievable night! BSAC’s 10th Anniversary Casino Night struck gold for families in need this past Friday night by amassing a whopping $50,000 in sponsorships, silent auction winning bids and ticket sales. In its ongoing mission to impact more and more children and families throughout the Tampa Bay area, BSAC has proudly partnered with the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) to raise funds for our own programs through Brandon’s signature event – The Taste of Brandon.
