BSAC and Livingstone Academy have long been leaders for special needs education in Hillsborough County. Now, they join forces in a new partnership, filling a gap in much-needed services for special needs students and adults.

Chuck Burgess (CEO of BSAC) and Chris Pello (CEO Livingstone Schools) met in Leadership Brandon through the Chamber of Commerce in 2014. They quickly built a professional relationship after discovering their common interest in serving the special needs community. Swimmers on the BSAC Blue Wave team recently traveled to Greensboro, NC to compete in the AAU Jr. Olympics. It is a multisport event with thousands of participants from across the United States. The Amateur Athletic Union was established in 1888 with the philosophy of “Sports for All, Forever”.

Team TRIDENT put on a fantastic performance in our 7th Annual Talent Show, Broadway or Bust! Students practiced for months leading up to the show, which was held on December 14th, 2018 in the BSAC gymnasium.

Every year, students in TRIDENT have the opportunity to shine on stage, expressing their unique personalities and gifts. Parents especially love seeing the joy on their child’s face as they finish their talent and step off the stage. BSAC’s Senior Director of Sports Programming, Theresa Hickie, has been awarded Public Citizen of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers (NAHW). This award annually recognizes someone that is not a social worker but carries out the philosophy NAHW believes in.

What an unbelievable night! BSAC’s 10th Anniversary Casino Night struck gold for families in need this past Friday night by amassing a whopping $50,000 in sponsorships, silent auction winning bids and ticket sales. In its ongoing mission to impact more and more children and families throughout the Tampa Bay area, BSAC has proudly partnered with the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) to raise funds for our own programs through Brandon’s signature event – The Taste of Brandon.

Judy Moore’s son, Nathan, in the fall of 2000, started a tennis program for intellectually disabled athletes, for community service hours at Jesuit High School of Tampa. Judy helped out the first year, then took over the program when her son went off to college. Some 17 years later, close to 100 athletes continue to attend Tennis For Fun clinics, held weekly on court space donated by the nonprofit Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, committed to impacting lives daily.
